Robert W. Sprunk MD “Bob” was born at 36 weeks gestation birth weight 4lbs 5oz (1956 gms) on June 9, 1949 at New Grace Hospital in Detroit. After completing his undergraduate degree ( 2 years Wayne State University and 2 years University of Michigan) he attended the University of Michigan Medical School graduating in 1975. He completed a 3 year pediatric residency at the University of Michigan C. S. Mott Childrens’ Hospital in 1978 and then took 1 yr of a 2 year fellowship in neonatology at Wayne Count General Hospital in Detroit.

In 1979 he moved to Traverse City Michigan and began his career in general pediatrics including outpatient, inpatient ED and neonatology and remained as a principal member of the Grand Traverse Childrens’ Clinic PC until his retirement from that practice in 2016 (37 yrs).

From 2017 – 2020 he helped provide “backup” call coverage for Munson Healthcare employed pediatric practices in Charlevoix, Grayling and Gaylord and also helped with NNP coverage in the Munson Medical Center NICU until completely retiring in November of 2020.

He has had the honor of being on the MIAAP Board trying among other things to help connect rural pediatric practice with the urban pediatric centers and the privilege to learn from the other MIAAP board members and staff.

His first love, originally experienced during training was neonatology. Caring for babies and being present at the birth of a human being never gets old and with retirement, it will always be missed.

He remains on the Munson Healthcare System Quality, Safety and Patient Experience Committee.
