Blueprint for Youth Suicide Prevention - The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), in collaboration with experts from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), created this Blueprint for Youth Suicide Prevention as an educational resource to support pediatric health clinicians and other health professionals in identifying strategies and key partnerships to support youth at risk for suicide.

MC3 – Michigan Clinical Consultation & Care – Psychiatry support for Michigan primary care providers (mc3michigan.org) - The MC3 program offers psychiatry support to primary care providers in Michigan who are managing patients with behavioral health problems. This includes children, adolescents, young adults through age 26, and women who are contemplating pregnancy, pregnant or postpartum (up to one year).  Psychiatrists are available through same-day phone consultations to offer guidance on diagnostic questions, medication recommendations and appropriate psychotherapy.  Your local MC3 Behavioral Health Consultant is also available to provide recommendations for local resources.

Michigan Medicine Department of Psychiatry Resource List:  A great website created by the Michigan Medicine Department of Psychiatry with many links to resources related to mental health topics, specifically with support for clinicians caring for patients in Michigan.  One of the great resources includes The Depression Toolkit.  This is a comprehensive resource for people who are are experiencing difficulties with mood, stress or anxiety, and can be especially helpful for those who have been recently diagnosed with and/or are receiving treatment for depression or bipolar disorders.

988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (AFSP) - The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is now the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (although the previous 1-800-273-TALK (8255) number for the Lifeline will continue to function indefinitely). AFSP has worked with Congressional partners, other non-profit coalition members, and mental health agencies to lead the charge for a 3-digit suicide prevention, mental health, and substance use crisis hotline.

Ask Suicide Screen Questions (ASQ) Toolkit (NIMH) - The Ask Suicide-Screening Questions (ASQ) tool is a brief validated tool for use among both youth and adults. The Joint Commission approves the use of the ASQ for all ages. Additional materials to help with suicide risk screening implementation are available in The Ask Suicide-Screening Questions (ASQ) Toolkit, a free resource for use in medical settings (emergency department, inpatient medical/surgical units, outpatient clinics/primary care) that can help providers successfully identify individuals at risk for suicide. The ASQ toolkit consists of youth and adult versions as some of the materials take into account developmental considerations.

Trauma Informed Care & Resilience Promotion : FREE to AAP members! This Pedialink course covers the most common symptoms of trauma, strategies to promote resilience and recognize impacts of trauma on health and development, tools for effective screening and surveillance, techniques for managing trauma symptoms, and suggestions on when and how to refer or prescribe. CME/MOC credit is available.

Zero Suicide Toolkit℠  - The Zero Suicide model operationalizes the core components necessary for health care systems to transform suicide care into seven elements.

Counseling on Access to Lethal Means / CALM Course: This course is about how to reduce access to the methods people use to kill themselves. It covers who needs lethal means counseling and how to work with people at risk for suicide—and their families—to reduce access.  FREE TO AAP Members

#MentalHealthMatters Video Series (AAP) - #MentalHealthMattersAAP aims to empower and educate teens about mental health, well-being and overall health by providing them with straightforward, medically accurate video content featuring AAP expert pediatricians and teens. Soul Shop (AFSP) - The goal of this workshop is to familiarize participants with the incidence and impact of suicide on their faith communities, and train them to address issues related to suicide.

Talk Saves Lives (AFSP) - Talk Saves Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention is a community-based presentation that covers the general scope of suicide, the research on prevention, and what people can do to fight suicide.

Gizmo for Mental Health (United Way) - Gizmo, the narrator of Gizmo’s Pawesome Guide to Mental Health, is a therapy dog. For the past 12 years, he has been comforting people when they are feeling sad, mad, or worried and, through his Pawesome Guide, provides school-aged children with the tools they need to manage their mental health.
