Teresa Holtrop, MD, FAAP immediate past President
Dr. Holtrop graduated from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. After four years in the National Health Service Corp, she returned to Children’s Hospital General Pediatrics Division where she founded the CATCH Pediatric Mobile Team, which provided pediatric services in community hosting organizations throughout Detroit for sixteen years. She was then inspired to co-found the Detroit Lead Partnership where she led the fight against lead poisoning in Detroit.
Through other advocacy work, Dr. Holtrop introduced the Reach Out and Read program to Michigan in 1995. While working through the Michigan Chapter American Academy of Pediatrics, she promoted and participated in training practices how to incorporate developmental, autism and mental health screenings into the work-flow. She also co-founded the Wayne Children’s Healthcare Access Program, a non-profit that works with multiple practices to improve the medical home for Medicaid children in southeast Michigan. Her goal is to improve the lives of children living in high risk environments, to allow them to grow into healthy, well-adjusted and empathetic adults.
