Chief of Pediatrics, Corewell Health Children’s
Dr. Matthew Denenberg serves as chief of Pediatrics for Corewell Health Children’s. He also serves as chair of Pediatrics for Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and physician executive for Corewell Health Medical Group East pediatric subspecialties.
Dr. Denenberg moved to Corewell Health East, returning to his Southeast Michigan roots, after serving as vice president of Medical Affairs at Corewell Health’s Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital and Corewell Health’s Grand Rapids Medical Center. Throughout his career, he has been active in many state and national medical organizations, sharing his passion for caring for children and safe, high-quality, family-centered patient care.
His dedication to helping children extends beyond bedside care. He leads three funded grants investigating pediatric disaster preparedness and traumatic brain injury and serves on the board of North Star Reach, a camp for children with serious health challenges.
Dr. Denenberg earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and his medical degree from the Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. His residencies were in pediatrics and emergency medicine at New York University – Bellevue Hospital (now NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue) and Wayne State University. He is board certified in both specialties and continues to practice pediatric emergency medicine. A lifelong learner and innovative thought leader, he has earned master’s degrees in bioethics from Michigan State University, in health quality and safety from Jefferson College of Population Health, and in health administration from the University of Providence.
When not working, he enjoys traveling, running, and playing outdoors with his wife Cheryl, and his teenage children, Nina and Nicolas.
